On January 11, 2025, the Rotary Club of Cobourg brought together a powerful force of community spirit, compassion, and action. What began as a one-day sewing event at the Salvation Army in Cobourg turned into a meaningful movement that rippled far beyond our town’s borders.

With support from Rotary clubs across the region, including Northumberland Sunrise, Colborne, Campbellford, and the Inner Wheel, as well as the guiding leadership of the Whitby Sunrise Rotary Club volunteers, came together to sew 1,175 reusable feminine hygiene liners, with an additional 50 nearly complete. For context, that’s almost 60% of the annual demand for girls in Consuelo, Dominican Republic, a remarkable achievement, especially when compared to last year’s total of 224 liners.

The event was a true cross-generational collaboration, with participants aged 7 to 90 joining forces. Over half the volunteers were unaffiliated community members, demonstrating just how much good can be accomplished when people unite for a common cause. Thanks to Embellish Drapery & Blinds, expert sewers brought speed and quality, while novice volunteers found ways to contribute meaningfully with support and guidance.

The impact didn’t stop at the sewing machines. As a result of the event, new connections were formed with aid groups in Cuba, collaborators in Conneticut, and networks in Peterborough, all working on similar initiatives. This event proved a powerful truth:

Doing good doesn’t end with one act—it multiplies.

We extend our deepest gratitude to every volunteer, every supporting organization, and every hand that helped create change. What we achieved together is more than service; it’s a message of hope, dignity, and global connection.

Say YES to Rotary. Say YES to service that matters.
