On April 12th we were fortunate to have Julia and Emma Mogus at our meeting to tell us about their efforts to promote literacy through their Books With No Bounds project. You can read about the meeting details on our public site. Following is a letter we received from the sisters after our Literacy Committee contributed $1,500 to the effort.
Please read their letter and see what these amazing young women are doing with our donation to improve the lives of First Nations children.
We can't thank you enough for the incredible donation of 1,500.00 we just received in the mail today! Julia and I are truly grateful for the support and kindness you have shown to us and more importantly, to the children who will receive books because of your generosity. Because of your gift we can continue to ship more books to the communities! Tomorrow we will be shipping boxes of books to the JK's SK's at Keewaywin First Nation and boxes of crafts to a few other communities we have ready to go. (we'll post the pictures on facebook www.facebook.com/bookswithnobounds )
We are also using the money to pay for shipping for 21 boxes sitting at Wasaya Airways right now that we have to ship with regular post once we arrive in Thunder Bay on Monday (we found out Wasaya doesn't fly into a few of the communities) We have 15,000 books in our basement that we will be shipping in the coming months.
With your donation we collected earlier we used some of it to pay our airline bills and we bought an iPAD to donate to Fort Severn to help with their numeracy and literacy skills. It will be a HUGE surprise when we give it to the school on May 15th. It cost 550.00 (the lady at Walmart gave us a 10 percent discount)
Our mom is paying for our hotels and everything in Thunder Bay and Fort Severn and Councillor Pam is paying her own hotels too! We promise to take a ton of pictures and videos and hope to show you after we come back.
Please tell all your amazing members how much we appreciate EVERYTHING they have done for our cause. We know the best reward is the letters they write and pictures they send. We want to send copies to you soon. In the meantime a big ROTARY HELLO to everyone and this was OUR GOOD NEWS (we wished we were at your meeting to drop money in the bucket with our good news!!)
Have to go to sleep and get up early for school. Thank you from our hearts!
Love Emma and Julia
